Flowery Branch asks residents to help shape the city’s next chapter

Email :

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — On quiet streets that lead toward Lake Lanier and along sidewalks where growth is no longer a distant idea but a daily reality, Flowery Branch is pausing to ask a defining question: What should our city become?

City leaders have launched a community survey as part of the 2025–26 Comprehensive Plan Update, inviting residents, business owners and stakeholders to help shape the long-term vision that will guide growth, land use, housing, transportation and public spaces for the next decade.

A comprehensive plan is the city’s roadmap — not just for what gets built, but for how Flowery Branch preserves its character while planning for change. Officials say this update begins with the people who call the city home.

“This is about listening,” city leaders have emphasized in outreach materials. “The future of Flowery Branch should be shaped by the community itself.”

Growth with intention

Flowery Branch has experienced steady change in recent years, driven by new development, infrastructure projects and renewed investment in its downtown core. With that momentum comes a responsibility to grow intentionally — balancing opportunity with the qualities residents value most.

The comprehensive plan update aims to do just that, using community feedback to help identify priorities such as housing needs, traffic and connectivity, economic development, greenspace and neighborhood preservation.

Rather than starting with predetermined solutions, the city is beginning the process by asking residents what matters most.

How residents can participate

At the center of that outreach is an online community survey, now open and accessible at

The survey allows participants to share their perspectives on growth, quality of life and long-term priorities, whether they’ve lived in Flowery Branch for decades or recently arrived. City officials say every response helps paint a clearer picture of where the community stands and where it hopes to go.

Additional engagement opportunities are expected in the coming months, including public meetings and workshops where residents can speak directly with planners and elected officials. Updates, background materials and meeting information will be posted through the city’s Community Development Department as the process continues.

A plan rooted in people

While comprehensive plans can sound technical, city leaders stress that the outcomes affect everyday life — from commute times and housing options to parks, sidewalks and the shape of future neighborhoods.

Previous planning efforts have helped guide downtown revitalization, infrastructure improvements and long-range investments across the city. Officials say this update builds on that foundation, but its success depends on participation.

For residents who care about how Flowery Branch evolves — and how it feels to live here years from now — the opportunity to weigh in is open now.
