Buford wrestling wins landslide victory at Region 8-AAAAAA traditional tournament

Buford High School’s wrestling team earned a dominant victory in the Region 8-AAAAAA traditional championship on Saturday, Jan. 29.

The Wolves closed out the tournament with a total of 292.5 points, eclipsing their competition, with second place Lanier High School coming in at 178.5 points.

We wrestled well, qualifying all 14 of our wrestlers for this weekend’s Sectional tournament at Discovery,” said head coach Tom Beuglas.

Buford’s individual victories were won by Rylan Ibold (106), Kieron McCormack (113), Maddox McArthur (120), Drew Gorman (126), Tyler Henley (132), Gavin Pope (138), J.T. McCullough (145), Talen Thompson (152), Grayson Santee (160), Conor McCloskey (170), Aaron Riner (182) and Trelain Maddox (220), all of whom contributed to the team’s success.

Ben Martin (195) also placed second, and Eddrick Houston (285) came in third, qualifying both wrestlers for sectionals.

The top 6 this weekend qualify for state,” Beuglas said. “That is our goal — to get all 14 qualified.”

Next, the Wolves will compete in the AAAAAA Section A tournament on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Discovery.
