Buford Green Wolf Head Logo in Oval FrameBUFORD — Buford’s varsity softball team lost a tough one to Marist on Tuesday night at the Buford Softball Complex.  Marist managed to just edge out Buford with a score of 7-6. It would take eight innings to accomplish that win.

Freshman Olivia Duncan was relieved in the top of the 8th inning with Buford and Marist tied at six points each.  Senior Kaitlyn Pickens would take the mound for Buford ultimately giving up the run that sealed the Lady Wolves’ fate.  Pickens would be charged with the loss as her overall win to loss ratio is 1-1.

Marist started out strong scoring three runs in the first inning with Buford only managing to answer back with one run.  Marist would score again in the top of the third inning.  Going into the fourth Marist led 4-1.  Once again Marist would add a run in the top of the fourth.

Buford’s bats finally came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kara Taylor, Duncan, and Kennedi Bauman would each get on base with a single.  With the bases loaded, Marist pitcher Lexi Van Metre would walk Emma Castorri allowing Taylor to score.  A short time later, Duncan would score on a wild pitch.  Anabel Adams hit a single that brought in both Bauman and Castorri.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Buford would break the tie of five points each when Castorri would score on a double by Adams.  Their lead was short-lived as Marist once again tied up the score in the top of the seventh.  Christian Cain scored on a double hit by Avery Fantucci.  Buford was unable to get ahead in the bottom of the seventh.  Katelyn Deguire would break the tie in the top of the eighth inning when she scored after Maddie Djuric singled.  Once again the Lady Wolves failed to add a run ending their night with a tough loss to Marist.

Adams would go three for four, earning 3 RBIs, and stealing one base for Buford.  Fellow teammate Abbi Perkins hit two for four on the night, earning one RBI, and stealing one base.  Freshman Castorri would also earn one RBI on a single.

Up next, Buford (9-5) will host Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 4 at 5 p.m. at the Buford Softball Complex.
