Buford pitcher leads softball team to win over Walnut Grove with career-high strikeouts

Buford’s varsity softball team beat Walnut Grove 3-1 at home after senior pitcher Olivia Duncan had her best performance of the season so far, pitching a complete seven innings. Duncan would strike out a career-high 13 opponents while giving up only one hit and one earned run off a home run in the fifth inning by Walnut Grove’s Malorie Watson.

Duncan’s record for the season improves to 8-0, while Buford’s overall season record improves to 16-0.

Junior Mackenzie Pickens scored all three runs for the Wolves thanks to a hit by freshman Caroline Stanton and a double by junior Adriana Martinez.

Offensive contributions were made by Martinez (1-for-3, double, one RBI), Stanton (1-for-3, one RBI), Mackenzie Pickens (three runs scored, three stolen bases, twice hit by pitch), senior Emma Castorri (1-for-3, one stolen base) and junior Madison Pickens (1-for-3, one stolen base).

The Wolves resume Region 8-AAAAAAA play Tuesday, Sept. 20, as they travel to play Central Gwinnett. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
