Buford man charged in murder of teen in Duluth

Officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m. at a parking lot in the 2300 block of Stephens Center Drive in Duluth.

Upon arrival, officers located Donoven Jones, 18 from Powder Springs in the parking lot deceased from a gunshot wound.

According to police, witnesses were able to give a description of a possible suspect that had run away from the scene. Officers were able to locate the suspect nearby.

The suspect has been identified as Kobe Williams, 21 from Buford. Officers who located Williams said that they found a gun in his possession when they detained him.

“There was an altercation between Williams and Jones in the parking lot that led to Williams shooting Jones,” Gwinnett County Police said in a written statement. “The details of the altercation and motive of the shooting are still being investigated.  Detectives are asking for anyone that may have witnessed the incident to come for with information they may have.”

Williams has been arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
