Buford loses tough battle to South Forsyth; North Gwinnett beats Lambert

HOSCHTON — Buford traveled to Mill Creek High School on Wednesday to participate in the Hawk Invitational tournament.  They battled back and forth with their opponent South Forsyth throughout the game but South Forsyth managed to beat them at the last moment in the bottom of the sixth inning.

On the mound for the Wolves was sophomore Chloe Hatcher (0-1) who pitched for five innings, had five hits, and two earned runs.  The Wolves were up 4-2 when Hatcher was relieved by senior Riley Reese (0-1).  Reese would give up four hits and three earned runs to allow South Forsyth to edge ahead of the Wolves.

Senior Emmaline Williams would lead Buford offensively as she batted 2-for-3 and earned an RBI.  Freshman Mackenzie Pickens went 1-for-3, earned an RBI, and scored two runs while junior Taylor Malvin was 1-for-2 earning an RBI.

Buford (3-2, 1-0) will continue region play on Thursday at 6 p.m. as they host Winder-Barrow.

 

North Gwinnett 8  Lambert 0

SUWANEE — North Gwinnett hosted Lambert on Wednesday where sophomore Jaylyn Benson shut out their opponent leading to an 8-0 win.  The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 52-4 so far this season.  Their overall season record is 5-0, 1-0.

Benson would lead the Bulldogs going 2-for-3 at the plate where she had a home run and earned four RBIs. Junior Marisa Miller had two hits, as well as, fellow junior Simone Leonard.

Their 6:30 p.m. game against Central Forsyth was rained out.  The Bulldogs have the weekend off and play next against Grayson on Tuesday, August 25 at 6 p.m. at North Gwinnett.
