The ArtsBridge Foundation, the arts education branch of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, has announced the 24 Georgia high schools chosen to compete in the 13th annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Shuler Hensley Awards. Two of those high schools are Buford and Lanier, which are two out of five Gwinnett County high schools that were chosen to compete in these awards.

The two schools will go on to compete for the Shuler Hensley Awards, named after the Atlanta-born Broadway star who hosts the competition, against the 23 other schools on May 20, 2021. Buford High School will perform “Bright Star” while Lanier High School will perform “The Addams Family.” There will be a live broadcasting of the performances on Georgia Public Broadcasting.

The Buford and Lanier theatre departments have the opportunity to win the following Shuler Award categories: direction, music direction, orchestra, choreography, ensemble, costume design, scenic design, leading actress and actor, overall production, show stopper and Shuler Spotlight. The Shuler Award leading actress and actor winners will represent Georgia for the Jimmy Awards, where they will compete against other high school actors and actresses at a national level for merit scholarships and professional opportunities.

Congratulations to Buford and Lanier as they prepare for the 13th annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards!
