The Buford High School varsity baseball player of the week is senior Matty Caymol. Caymol is a shining example of the power and resilience of the human spirit. A few years ago, he was seriously injured in a car accident that left him unable to play the sport of baseball that he loved so much as he had previously. Caymol could not part with baseball, so he has served as the baseball team manager for the past three years.

Buford head baseball coach Stuart Chester wished to honor Caymol on Senior Night. Caymol was able to take the field on that special night first on the mound and then he led off the Wolves’ batting order. Central Gwinnett’s pitcher walked Caymol and he took first base. He was relieved at first by a pinch-runner. The joy on Caymol’s face was infectious.

“Matty is what Buford baseball is about!  He’s always putting others first and gives meaning to #family. Matty Caymol has made us all better people.” Coach Chester said.

Congratulations, Matty Caymol!  Thank you for teaching us what true strength is.
