Buford City Schools officially appoints new superintendent

At its monthly Buford Board of Education meeting on Monday evening, Jan. 24, Mrs. Melanie Reed was officially named as the new superintendent for the Buford City School System.

Dr. Amy Chafin

Per the recommendation of Dr. Robert Downs and upon approval of the Board of Education, Dr. Amy Chafin was named the new deputy superintendent. Chafin has served as assistant superintendent for student achievement since March 2021 and has served as a curriculum director for the system since 2017.

“It is the goal of the school board to have our leadership team at the central office established going into the end of this school year so that strategic planning can begin for the next school year,” Dr. Downs said.

Reed has served in the Buford City School System for the past 28 years working as an educator, administrator, assistant superintendent and deputy superintendent.

“I am honored to be named the superintendent and am very appreciative to Dr. Downs for his leadership and guidance,” Reed said. “I certainly have big shoes to fill. It is also very humbling to know the Board of Education has confidence in me to lead our school system with the continued commitment to excellence. I am thrilled to continue serving this school district I love so much.”
