Buford boys and girls clinch region as does North Gwinnett’s boys basketball team

Buford

The Buford girls basketball team beat Loganville 47-35 to clinch the Region 8-AAAAA championship title on Friday night in Athens.  Buford (26-1) was led offensively by Ashyia Willis who scored 13 points and Tate Walters who contributed 11 points to their win.  Walters was named the Region Player of the Year.  Willis, Katelyn Klein, and Blair Wallis earned All-Region honors.

Buford’s boys basketball team managed to hold off Cedar Shoals in an extremely tight win of 88-86 to capture the region title. Buford (21-6) was the no. 2 seed going into this game.

Lanier

Lanier’s girls basketball team beat Habersham Central 45-20 to advance to the Region 8-AAAAAA championship game on Saturday against Dacula.  Zuriyah Davis scored 25 points for Lanier (17-9) which led their offensive efforts.  Christabel Ezumah contributed eight points for the Longhorns.

The boys basketball team for Lanier will also advance to their region championship game after they defeated Dacula 74-66 on Friday night.  Lanier (21-5) will play for the region title against Gainesville.  The offensive standouts for the Longhorns were Andrew McConnell who scored 22 points, Iajah Phillips with 14 points, Sion James contributed 13 points, and Ryan Johnson added 12 points.

North Gwinnett

The North Gwinnett boys basketball team upset Collins Hill winning the Region 6-AAAAAAA title with a score of 86-55 at home on Friday night.  This would be the first time in six years.  R.J. Godfrey led the Bulldogs scoring 25 points and had six rebounds.
