Body of missing drowning victim found floating in Shoal Creek area of Lake Lanier

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has recovered the body of a drowning victim that has been missing since May 29, 2021, after the body was found floating in the Shoal Creek area of Lake Lanier.

A call came into Hall County 9-1-1 about a body floating in the Shoal Creek area of Lake Lanier at approximately 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 31.  Georgia Game Wardens, Hall County Fire Services, Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the Corps of Engineers responded to the call.

The body of Xi Zhu, age 56 of Marietta was recovered by Hall County Fire divers. Zhu went missing on May 29, 2021, after he left his inflatable raft to retrieve an oar and was not able to make it back to the raft.

The search for Zhu was ongoing for weeks with no luck.  The family along with the family of another drowning victim, Dorian Pinson had hired a private dive company to take over the search.  Pinson was located and retrieved by the company on July 14, 2021.
