Wolves Take A Loss Out Of State

The Buford Wolves varsity football team lost Friday’s away non-conference game against South Pointe (Rock Hill, SC) 33-27 This was a much anticipated match up as Buford has won 11 state titles and was the 2016 AAAAA state runner-up. No. 8 South Pointe has won three consecutive state titles, including the 4A title last season. South Pointes (Rock Hill, S.C.) dual threat quarterback Derion Kendrick proved to be too much for the Wolves as he passed for two touchdowns and ran for two, including the game winning score in the Stallions 33-27 victory Buford (2-1) had taken a 27-24 lead on a 24-yard scamper by Anthony Grant with 8:16 to go. Kendrick than responded with a 17 yard touchdown run with 5:16 remaining to put the Stallions (4-0) up for good. The Stallions added a late safety by defensive end Eli Adams with 1:04 left. Both of Kendrick’s touchdown passes were to wide receiver Scott Robinson, the first for 38 yards and the second for 36. Buford took advantage of the Stallions shaky special teams play. A bad snap on a punt in the end zone, put Buford up 7-0. A blocked field goal attempt, led to a 3-yard touchdown run by Grant. The Stallions also gave up a 55 yard punt return by Austin Turner, to cut the South Pointes lead to 21-20 in the first half. The Wolves look to bounce back at home on Sept. 29 vs. Clarke Central (Athens).
